Backup Light Switch

The switch is top center in the picture. It's located pretty much directly above the crossmember towards the top of the tranny at hanging off the rear.

Check the wire coming from the switch with a multimeter. According to my Haynes it's a black wire. It should give continuity to ground (less than 2 ohms) if the switch is ok and the tranny is in reverse. If not, check the switch directly.

If you only have test light, connect to a positive and probe the wire or the switch. Should light in reverse if ok.

You could also unplug the relay and check the black wire at the plug for ground when trans is in reverse. No need to get dirty if you don't have to. You probably wouldn't find it at my local Volvo dealer. That have nothing by way of parts.

Unless the spring broke, there really is much too go wrong. Maybe the connector is just dirty/loose. 2 phillips screws and the oval box comes out.

Also make sure you have power going to the relay on the brown wire coming from the fusepanel (not sure if ignition needs to be on).

good luck.
