Dash panel Lights 700 1985

I had a somewhat similar problem; my dash lights were acting completely nuts, the illumination lights and instruments were intermittent. Brickboarders had the answer; the ground connections on the back of the instrument panel were loose. It was an easy fix: there are 2 phillips screws hidden under plastic covers next to the dimmer control on one side and the clock adjustment knob on the other. Remove those screws and you can lift the instrument unit straight out -- toward you. It helps if you have fingernails!

Take it out far enough to see the wiring on the back. On mine the black wires were the grounds, and I tightened 3 small phillips screws that were loose. That solved the problem for me.

If you have a turbo, be careful not to accidentally disconnect the hose to the turbo boost gauge. It's a pain to reconnect!
