Yazaki Speedo Not Working , Odometer Does.........Anyone Solved This Problem? 700

Hi John,

you may be correct that the VDO and Yazaki units are different. However, I do not think that you should be too alarmed by that since speedo designs by nature are very similar. In your case, the capacitor might be alright (if it exists) but you may have bad solderings instead. The electronics inside fail rarely and the most likely cause is, as mentioned, bad solderings.

Also, I don't see why the opening of a Yazaki unit should differ much from opening a VDO unit.

I don't personally have that bad capacitor experience as told by 'Anders' but when I did the calibration a couple of months ago, I did notice small cracks around some solderings. They were not big enough to cause any malfunctions yet but not far from it...

Finally, after posting the calibration info on this forum (later to be added to the FAQ) I had some discussions with 'Art Benstein'. He seemed to be experienced with older speedos so he might be the guy with the answers to your questions.

Good luck, mate!
