Unless they employ a clean method of generating the hydrogen, you are simply moving the emissions up to hydrogen generation. IE it takes electricity to make hyrdogen (or free it) and often fossil fuels are used to make electricity!
The misconception that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the world is prevalent. Sure it's abundant, but not without having to use energy to free (as in electrolysis)!
I like the idea of using hydrogen in an ICE, I'm just not sure it's practical.
