The connection is at the back of the head, there are two connectors there. One is for the RPM sensor(two wires) and the other is the cam sensor(3 wires).

It is not unusual for the sensor to fail, but the first thing I would do is clean the connection first. It is very sensitive to resistance. The sensor
itself is at the back of the head inline with the exhaust cam on the passenger side.

It may only be the connection.
