Curious minds still want to know. Was there one (or more) particular fixes that really made a difference?

I have personally found and seen that there are many things we do to our Volvos in search of a fix - replacing parts that do not need to be replaced. Sure, we get new parts here and there, so we do not have to worry anymore about that piece for a spell - but man, it can get pricey!
