Picked up alternator this morning, then went to Home Depot for hacksaw and file.

Took about 20 minutes total to to perform metal surgery, puppy is ready for installation. My 36 month warranty flew away into the clouds after messing with the metal, but I doubt I'll have any problems with alternator. Thanks all for your assistance/ advice. New belt has now been mounted correctly, had been backwards like that for a number of years.
