To be sure it's not the wiring, connect the clock right to the battery under the hood with a couple of little jumpers and alligator clips. Synchronize it to a known accurate timepiece like a digital watch. Leave overnight, being REALLY careful it won't short out on anything, and check the time in the morning.
This will tell you if you need clock repair or wiring troubleshooting.
I use this test on junkyard small clocks I pull. These are around 20yrs old, and amazingly, every one has been quite accurate.
