The Volvo's I'm familiar with use the Dana / Spicer style rear axle so there is no "punkin" or "pig". Everything comes out the back(one piece at a time) and to do it right you will need some special tools, spreaders maybe, shims, dial gauges, etc.

The short answer: change the entire axle.
