Speedometer not working, Help! 200 1978

Yup I agree withthe thread. I had both problems occur. Bad gear in the speedo, and then a couple of years later the cable broke. I disconnected the speed cable from the instrument cluster and had it hang down where I can touch the inner square shank and feel if it spins while the car is moving. That's how I knew the cable was broken..it wasn't spinning.
