Valve tap was clearly present on my 92 965, but the V90 is very quite, to the point that I sometimes am not sure it's running. I've used fully synthetic oil, most recently switching to 0W-40 Mobil1, changing every 6K, or about twice a year for me. It does eat oil, so I'm not concerned about the interval. I also use Amoco gold almost exclusively, dipping down to midgrade very infrequently, or filling up at Costco when I'm tthere. Can't give you any more information than that.
