There should be no need to change the filter at 1000 miles if it was run on a semi-synthetic. I'd run it to 5000 as recommended in the manual and do a normal oil change. The only reason I would change sooner is if there is sludge under the oil cap. Otherwise don't worry about it, just remember to use a Volvo OEM or Mann oil filter with your car. You can pick them up as cheap as $3.50 over at http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo.htm
