Thanks for the advice. I may try that or may just go for the head gasket and and cross my fingers that the hamsters don't get loose (or disturb the liners). I'm not sure.

I have an old radiator and would by-pass the heater core. Going through all the hoses on that blasted engine might be worse than just yanking the head!
