My f'n wagon 700 1989

So I went up to fiddle with the dead wagon. Warmed it up, got it to die. Then I went at the ECU connector with my DMM.. nothing out of the ordinary. The coil resistance measured really high, so I swapped in a known good one. Not the problem (measuring really small values requires a better DMM I suppose).

So I was putting the cap and rotor back on (which looked just fine) when I noticed a wire with broken insulation. Turns out it's the cable to the hall pickup in the distributor. As luck would have it there are two wires and a bunch of 'shielding'. The blue wire is missing insulation where the outter insulation broke, the red wire is missing insulation where at the connector. Grrr.

Even better, I have the distributor end of the connector, but not the wring harness end (the one I need to replace.. or pull the terminals out of).

Hopefully this is the problem at hand.

On the plus side, the amber/clear e-code corners came in (Depo and TYE aftermarket lamps.. far better quality than all clear the DJ Auto (ScamTech) corners I got from FCP Groton). Headlight fine adjustment motors and switch came in too. Ohh... I'm going to have to get this car running and put all this stuff together now... :-D
