For your 1988 turbo 700, flywheel indexing is unimportant. The pins and sensor you write of are refered to as the Timing Pin Readout Set, or something like that. They have no function except to connect to special Volvo dealer tools. For the average independant Volvo mechanic, the sensor and corresponding pins are useless.
