'96 960 cooling fan problems S90-V90

The fan power is controlled by a set of relays just in front of the battery. The relays in turn are controlled by the ECU.

I'm just taking a wild guess here but, the two speed fan controls may be broken such that when the high speed is called for because of heat, that circuit is dead.

If you don't have the Volvo wiring diagram for your car I strongly recommend you get one as it will save you many times over the $30.00 it will cost you. See the links in the manual section of the 700/900 FAQs for the place to get one.

Another possibility is that your fan is on the way to dying and the high speed connections are dead. My fan died because the small ball bearing at the front siezed.
