1) Like previous post...easy to change thermostat, but be very careful to put new one back in the same way the old one came out and make sure that the engine is topped off (full) with coolant.

2) Don't drive the car with the temperature gauge like that. It could damage the engine if it's indeed a high temperature. The temperature compensation board is mounted on the backside of the instrument cluster. You can either bypass the board (past posts on the board of how to do), or you can purchase and install a new board very cheaply..and it's easy to do

3) I'd make sure that the auxiliary AC fan is running when it's supposed to....the older 240s were prone to running hot w/o the fan, which is why Volvo started making cars with the fan. I'm not sure when the fan is supposed to be running. Not sure if it stays ON the entire time when A/C is running or simply cycles based on freon pressure. 4) Waterpump. If your coolant level is low, then you may have a leak on the waterpump, radiator, or a hose. Check it closely.
