tach gone wild 1800 1972

Hi,
I don't have an answer but I did pull apart one once. It was the one that sat on top of the dash board independantly a'la 123gt style. It may have been from a 123? I'm not sure. ...Anyway there is a big wound flat metal spring, much like the inside of a thermostat in there. I'm not much of an electronics guy, but it does sound like there is some sort of "thermostatic" affect. (if that is a word).
Just my guess.
