Advisability of steam cleaning the engine? 140-160

Ditto. New Zealand has very strict regulation and inspections to protect the local agricultural industry, so I had to get it done extremely well when I've imported my '71 144 beginning of 2001. Cover the distributor and coil, and it helps to spray WD40 before (as well as after). Suggest you remove the 5 high voltage leads, and they can soak up water. Also keep in mind that break fluid is hygroscopic (absorbes moisture from the atmosphere). And don't forget to cover the dipstick and oil filler.

The reason why New Zealand is so strict is because on this (large) island you don't need to spray for pests or for nearly as many weeds as in other countries. And they want to keep is that way.
