240 1990 a/c compressor replacement

I was told this morning that my a/c compressor needs replacement because of leakage. They wanted $900.
I decided to try replace it myself.
Can anyone give me pointers on what to buy, and how to have the most efficient system when Im done.
I will just install the parts, and the let someone else do the rest.

Where should I get the parts. Whats a fair price etc.
