Jack,

Unless you're just dying to solve a mystery, pull that alternator. You could always have it tested independently. Most parts stores will do this for no charge.

I replaced the original generator with Kwas' alternator fix and not a hiccup from that system since. GM one wire. Very easy.

You don't want sparks near SU's. They like to spit up from time to time.
