ACCIDENT!!!

In 1976 I drove a tow truck for AAA of Southern California for about a year. I saw more than my share of accidents, but this photo prings one to mind:

I was enroute back to our shop and came across the CHP working an accident scene just a few blocks from my destination. An officer flagged me down and requested that I help remove a pickup truck from undernear a semi truck trailer.

It was obvious that the driver of the pickup had driven into the back of the parked semi's trailer at a fairly high speed, as the only thing recongizable was the tailgate of the truck. The rest of it was wadded up and wedged under the rear of the semi trailer.

I hooked up the rear of the pickup and started winching it out, and we all heard a voice say "What the f*&('s going on?" It was impossible for the driver to have survived the crash, but we quickly discovered that the driver was VERY drunk and had fallen asleep and fallen sideways across the seat, then rolled onto the floorboard when he hit the semi. His pickup was wrapped completely around him, but he only had a small cut on his forehead.

It took the Fire Department nearly an hour to cut him out of the wreck.

It must be true that God watches over fools and drunks...
