Please don't hate me, but..... 200 1989

Volvo must have figured out the problem in the final years, because I use Mann filters on my '90 and '91 and I have never had any problem at all. They just drop in, close, and clamp. Put the air tube back and replace the bolt that holds the AMM, and Voila!

Now the RIGHT way to do an air filter is with a drawer like the one used in my two BMWs. Putting an air filter in them is as easy as putting a freshly folded T-shirt in your dresser drawer. BMW makes up for it, however, with their cabin air filter. Replacing that one is a REAL #!@^&%$#.

The RIGHT way to do a cabin air filter is the way the Volvo S70 does it.
