Unfortunately, this is a very common problem on our cars. The vacuum motors controlling the doors in the air distribution box or the recirculate door develop leaks such that the vacuum reservoir can't keep up.

Read the sections in the 700/900 FAQs on AC problems and fixes.

I have scanned pages from my manual for the air distribution box motor replacement if you want them.
