CD changer woes... 700 1990

What's the correct way to reset it? I've tried disconnecting it, ejecting the magazine & emptying it then reinserting it & trying to eject the disc that's still in it but it only pops the magazine right back out rather than feeding the disc back in to the magazine before ejecting it. I'm hoping it's something obvious that I'm overlooking...
