Hi. Actually, your suggestion, "...put a good brand mercon 5 or type F...." is wrong. He indicated that he has a '90, and all 240s from 1984 on take Dexron (whatever generation, II, III, etc.) is current. Type F (Ford and Mercury fluid) only applies up to 1983.

But I agree -- a good flush is the best hope to salvage that transmission.
