164 Update and questions 140-160 1975

I haven't communicated in a long time about my 1975 164e. I gave it new front pads today and greased up the rear pads, trying to get rid of the nasty squeal. Once the rear brakes heat up, you want to wear tweety muffs and it sure is fun watching the guy in front of you stare in the rearview mirror! I wonder if it needs shims...
New seats from a 1991 240 (cloth) are real comfortable, but the seat heater turns on every time I start the car. The 240 switch for seat heaters doesn't stay in the on position, so I don't know if I can use it. Looks like it might be wired to a relay or something. Too bad.
4 new tires and rear shocks make a world of difference. Guess I need to bite the bullet and have a shop put in front struts and press in some new bushings so I don't wander from side to side. The car rolls so nicely down the highway at 70, I have a hard time convinceing myself that it is 30 years old.
By the way, the vacuum boost suddenly started to work again. I guess the brake fluid finally dried up. One toe braking is nice. And with the brake lines securely fastened to the calipers, the proportioning valves work nicely. At least the squeal comes from both sides - stereo!

Now that it is nice out, it is time to tackle the electrical glitches. The idiot lights come on when the parking brake lever is pulled up. Must be something I did the last time I took the instrument cluster off. I also got a shock when I reached up under the dash and touched the rpm(?) wires. Folks who modify wiring should be required to create a new wiring diagram so that subsequent owners don't have to follow every wire to see where it goes and why it goes there.
