Sorry for the extended post -
Purchased 1992 740 wagon in May, 120k miles, Rex/Regina non-turbo model. The seller did some work on the vehicle before sale (new water pump and and 134 conversion on AC). Everything seemed ok with vehicle but sometimes it was touchy starting, and gas mileage was a little iffy even for 100% city driving in DC (getting about 16-18 mpg).
So I poked around and found the FPR had a slight leak - not much, but definitely perforated and leaking fuel. I got a new FPR from FCPGroton and swapped it. However, still same iffy problem with starting and bad mileage.
So last week I did Maryland emission inspection. Everything was well within limit except for NOX, which was about 40% out of spec.
No codes at all on the OBD. The O2 sensor isn't new but looks recent. I am thinking I might have a partially blocked CAT, killed from excess fuel from the perforated FPR. Is this nuts? Is it plausible? Any ideas are welcomed, thanks!
