Installing that cam (part 2) 140-160 1971

OK, so I thought I would have this cam out today...I was wrong. I took the advice of putting the nut on the front of the cam then striking it to drive the cam back and thus the cam gear off or at least loose enough to remove it. I beat the heck out of it (no damage) and the gear did move a small amount however I still can not budge the gear. I am concerned about pounding it any more. Should I be? How far can I pound that cam in before 1 something is damaged or 2 the soft plug on the back is punched out? Any other advice?

My only other idea was to split the gear in two since everyone thinks it is a good idea to replace the fiber gear anyway.

Advice please!! I am running out of time.

Thanks again,
Wayne
