replacing temp gauge (difficulty level?) 120-130

This is the same gauge and gauge panel used in the PV544?

I replaced/rebuilt all my gauges right after I got the car a little more than a year ago. The only problem I had was with the fuel gauge, and that turned out to be a gutted sending unit.

I thought I could just pull the gauges out without removing the cluster, too. Apparently my hands are larger than others', since I can't even begin to get into a position where I can get my hands up there.

Removing the cluster was a snap, though. One 10mm nut on each side, and a little wiggle and it just about fell out into my hands.

Remember, though, it comes out the FRONT side, towards the steering wheel.

My only problem now is that my hands are still too big to get those pesky indicator bulbs back into their holes. I'll be installing a nicer gauge panel soon, and I'll set it up so the bulbs stay in the panel and connect to the wiring harness with a gang plug, like a modern car.

FWIW: I sanded the gray wrinkle paint off the cluster trim panel and painted it gloss black. The new black frames the gauges nicely, and doesn't distract your eye like the gray paint did.

Have fun!

Steve
