1989/745T/5.0/AOD Coming Together:


Hi All,

Thanks !! to those of you who wrote me awhile back regarding exhaust: W. Boozer in particular ! Wesley, I still want to check out your system - even just to take a couple of pictures. Call me if you're still game ( 770- 982- 4426 ).

The transplant recipient: 1989 745T
230k miles
Gold ( "Gobi Beige " )w/tan leather
Everything works/second owner/well maintained
Blown B230FT head gasket started the whole thing

The donor car ( there's an interestng story but I'll skip it for now ):

1985 745 former diesel wagon, two owners
Can't remember mileage right now
Has used 1990 5.0/HO AOD for past several years
Converse kit
Silver/Black leather, looks great, everything works
Entrails from both cars will be for sale when transplant is done...


The 1990 HO/5.0 and trans are in, it'll be a couple of weeks before everything gets connected ( we're on a liesurely schedule here ). More notes/ questions:

I 'm adding sway bars and upper/lower strut braces. Which ones work best ? I've ordered a 760 ( 6 cyl. ) bar from IPD, along w/ a set of thier strut braces. I have no idea if they will clear the intake...

The car seems to sit just right using stock springs, ect. I plan on driving it a bit before I do anything beyond the bars and braces, then maybe up grade shocks/springs. Might use the diesel springs from the donor car. I have 16" Turbo wheels w/ Michelin Harmony tires, which will work fine as I still plan to use the car as a Family Truckster and for the occaisional business trip ( 01 Jetta TDI is my company car ).

It'll be interesting to see how the AOD and turbo rear end work out. I would probably talk myself into a limited slip rear if this project turnes out well...Emphasis though is on highway comfort/handling, good mileage if possible...

It'll have stainless lines, otherwise brakes will be stock for now.

Exhaust will be per Boozer Motorsports recommendation, with addition of flanges near headers to facilitate easy removal of exhaust/transmission if needed...

Any further comments or suggestions on the above stuff is greatly appreciated.I have resisted the urge to make the car a hot rod, though it hasn't been easy...I'm determined to get it on the road and live with it for awhile before doing any performance mods...

I'll have the donor car up for sale after we're done, along with the B230FT/trans ( it starts/runs,no smoke, will need head gasket ), and misc. parts from both cars...Let me know if you need anything specific and I'll keep you posted, or I'll send pics if you'd like...

Any local get togethers in ATL area for Volvo V8 people ?
