Using the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the AOD

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone is running an AOD trans with the stock Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) . . . .

Our car is an 83 245GL with drivetrain from 89 Mustang GT. When I did the swap back in '95 I removed the Ford VSS from the transmission as I had some "clearance issues."

Now that I'm going back in and "freshening up" the drive-train and exhaust, I'm wondering if I ought to look at hooking up the VSS.

I understand that it provides a signal to the ECM (6v-24v?), but is it necessary? What changes could I expect to see if I were to put the VSS back into the system (gas mileage, idle quality, etc)?

For those that are using the VSS, did you have any clearance issues? Is there a more "compatible" VSS, say an "L-shaped" unit instead of the one that's 3+ inches long?

Thanks in advance!

Steve A-
