Air Filter for 302

My 302 powered 740 came with a K&N cone filter, which is now torn at the base and needs to be replaced. It is the K&N model RE-0870 (Universal 9" long filter). As I am curious if the tearing is because it may not fit perfectly where it sits (and held in place with an O-ring), I looked at K&N's catalog and saw that their standard application for a 1990 302 is model number 57-2502 (it is more of a cylinder shape and seems to have a chrome metal tip as opposed to all black like the RE-0870).

As I have to mail order and can't compare the two models to check the best fit before purchasing, could those of you having 302's with K&N filters please let me know what model you are running ? If you don't know the model, please state whether it is a cylinder with a metal end tip or a cone with black rubber/plastic end tip. Any ideas on which one is the best fit for our Volvos ?
