Thanks for the encouragement. I've been wrestling with the idea of keeping the car or not. I love the eccentricity of the car, and to some degree the sleeper potential of the car. But I can't help thinking I should be putting my resources into more of a sports car to fill my needs. Something like the FFR Type 65 Coupe (factoryfive.com). Or if my ability to save never makes it to that level then something cheaper, but say with better suspension design, better aftermarket support for suspension and wheels, more attractive overall design (subjective I know) and if I shop carefully something that could potentially be in a decent SCCA class. A swapped 740 is a fun and interesting street car but not outstanding in any given performance category. What I really want is a track car that is just barely streetable (enough to drive it to the track hauling it's own track wheels/tires, and legally register)
Those thoughts plus the fact that my car (already swapped 302 + T5) needs quite a lot of maintenance at this point (rebuild, clutch, tranny work, paint, suspension bits, etc etc etc. Makes it difficult to dump that much money into a car that is worth far less than the sum of it's parts.
Even my "main" car has more potential with off-the-shelf parts for more bang for my buck. 2001 S4 avant, with a turbo upgrade makes an easy 400+hp and has much better handling.
Even so, I love the idea of building up the 740, taking it to the track and having people scratching their heads at what the hell just drove by.
