carb or fuel injected

What you'll have to do is get detailed schematics of both the Ford EFI system, as well as the Volvo system. In helping a buddy of mine think through his (97 Mountaineer efi 5.0L/AODE into a 940 turbo sedan) we sat down and made a list of every connection that had to be made from battery, starter, alternator to fuel pump, a/c controls, temp. gauge, oil pressure idiot light, etc. Starting with the big stuff first (starter, alternator, battery, etc.) he made the obvious connections. Then circuit by circuit he identified which wires had to be joined (schematics), what color they were and the best place to join them. It's really gonna be very difficult for anyone to tell you step by step what to connect with what. The good news is that there aren't that many connections between the Ford engine harness and the Volvo system. Off the top of my head - power and ground, oil pressure light, coolant gauge, tach, ignition, a/c (if you want the Ford system to kill the comp. clutch at w.o.t.) and fuel pump. Of course you'll need to ground the engine/tranny to the chassis, and you'll need power from the alternator to the battery/starter, and to the main power buss on the Volvo (driver's side inner fender).

You'll save yourself lots of trouble if you're sure to get an ENTIRE wiring harness from the same engine/car on the Ford side. Of course, Ross Converse kit provides detailed descriptions/pics/electrical connectors to do the conversion. www.converseengineering.com Mine's an 82 242 powered by a 5.0L HO efi. I wouldn't even think of putting a carb on it. And you'll be hard pressed to match the mileage you can get with efi.
