Question about setting up my carb fuel system

Hello again,
My Volvo comes home on Tuesday, the carcas is finally coming home!

I've been reading up on fuel system requirements for my diesel=>302 swap, and I'm a little confused. I figured this would be really easy since the mechanical pump could be hooked up to the Volvo's fuel line and it would be done. When I searched, I started reading about electric pump set-ups, and even dual pumpers with an in-tank primer and an inline secondary! I may be naive here, but I only need a few psi. If the Thunderbird can suck its own gas right now, why won't it be able to do it in the Volvo? Is the line just way too small?

Thanks in advance
-Aaron
