Question about setting up my carb fuel system

You are correct that using the stock mechanical pump on the 5.0L and drawing directly from the tank will work just fine as long as the fuel lines are 5/16" (preferably 3/8"), carbs require about 4.5 psi, it is the volume that is more important. On my car since it was a gas EFI system I used the intank pump which produced about 12 psi, then installed a low pressure regulator and "T'ed" that back through the return line to maintain a constant 4.5 psi at the carb. This is a little more involved but really the result is the same.
