Flow control valve for new heater core....top hose? v8 740

I am just about to put everything back together and am assuming that my little flow control valve from Ford will go into the top hose just at the top inlet on the new heater core...so the bottom hose coming from the water pump supplies to the top inlet? I would hate to blow my new core by not getting more heads involved.

I know I could just turn on the car with a hose disconnected, but have too many pets and kids around to have any spillage. I am also currently bypassing the core with a separate hose, so my system is still sealed.

Thanks,
Ed
