Driveshaft revisited

Drive shaft solution

I finished installing a one piece Lincoln dual cardan driveshaft in my 200 series 5.0L
The results are very smooth and it seems to have cured the vibration problems I’ve been experiencing with the two piece shaft.
It boils down to the fact that I have been unable to align the engine properly. With the dual cardan shaft the slight misalignment is canceled out.
To install it I had a custom differential pinion flange built by Tom Woods ($110 a very nice job – it fit perfectly) reused the transmission end yoke since the Lincoln has a longer tail housing on the tranny. Also the shaft was shortened (7”) and balanced locally.
The new shaft weighs a little less than the original two piece. It is smaller in diameter (2.75”) than the Mustang shaft but plenty beefy. I never heard of a top speed limitation on a Lincoln Continental due to drive shaft harmonics.
I’ve driven with it some and have had no problems with clearance or bottoming out.
