One more issue with going to 225/45/16 instead of 225/50/16 (beyond smaller diameter of the 45 series tire and effect like speedometer accuracy). The former tire may not be as tolerant on the width of the rim, particularly if you have narrow rims now.

What rims are you going to mount these tires on ? For 225/50/16, 6.5" may be the minimum, and 7.0" would be better. For 225/45/16 the minimum would be 7.0, but 7.5 would be preferable.

I think the specs for the BFG T/A tire you are ordering call for a rim width of 7.0 to 8.5".
