I completely and totally agree but any 17 year old car is going to need the engine/trans rebuilt.
That's the problem with all these V8 swaps. The GM V8's only came in trucks for the last 10 years and truck drive trains sell at a premium, the Ford Mustang went to the 4.6L engine with its on set of space issues and the Explorer V8's have lots of wiring, sensor, and space issues.
IMO the '96 (not '95) through '01 Explorer offers the best bang for the buck. I found a Explorer/Firestone V8/4R70W with 11k miles in warehouse storage.
I am at the engine install stage on a '00 Explorer/'82 245. Resolved a lot of issues without a 'kit'. Working with another like hobbyist. Anyone want to join feel free to holler.
