Having just bought George's 740/302 5 speed a few weeks ago, I have fresh input from a new buyer about the conversions.
Fun, rumbly, and pretty fast were my first impressions, then I pulled out of the parking lot.
They did a lot of work to this car...more than others that I looked at and I am grateful for it. All of the common bugs are non existant.
My car almost passed strict Maryland inspections before I even got to see it. It just needed some bulbs, a new windshield and aiming the headlights was about it. All aspects of the integration were done and driving it is easy.
I am sure there are others out there that need a lot more work to make them really "driveable" as a daily driver.
I was looking for a car like this. I have no interest in driving a mustang or other sports car. I have 3 kids and need a good bit of space in a car. I also like how understated the old volvo wagons are. I blend in anywhere with it and in traffic can really merge easily and quickly take off with all of the extra power.
My plans are to update the interior at some point as it is a bit dated and there are a few squeeks and rattles here and there. I want to add Limited slip and thats about it. Overall, a great car for the money.
My advice is to find someone with a converted car and see if they will let you drive it as a first step. Then, if you find one for sale, really look it over carfully before you jump in and buy it.
I would love to build a really crazy one in the future now that I have some scope of what is involved.
Good luck!
