fuel lines

i been having fuel pressure and volume delivery problems from the gecko on my 1980 244 with a chevy carbed 350. new holley mech. pump..didn't even change the flow. .. i checked the tank for rust/obstrustions...nothing it was clean. it still has the 5/16 stock fuel lines. my trusty mechanic says that those are good till 400 horses let alone good for the 2xx horses i'm putting down. i think that going to 3/8 lines would fix the problem. just wondering what everyone else is using? also its an intermitting prob. the press./flow will change from day to day and keeping the carb(BG road demon 625cfm) in tune is impossible with the changes.
