How to orient polyurethane engine mount bushing 850 1995

I am replacing my upper engine mount with the polyurewthane bushing. That is the plan, anyway. The new part has an obviously eccentricity, with the bolt hole 1/8" off center. The two halves of the bushing are identical, with an arrow similar to that on the OEM bushing. When you assemble the bushing, the arrows thus point 180 degrees from each other. (You flip one half to get it to mate to the other). So, when assembled, and you orient one arrow "up", if you look on the other side, its arrow is pointing "down". You can't place both arrows "up", because then you can't press the two halves together.

It you place the bushing so the arrow points up on the driver's side of the engine mount arm (that is where the OEM bushing's arrow is), the hole is 1/8" towards the back of the car from the center. If I look at the OEM bushing (still on the car) from the top, I can't see any apparent offset front to back. Therefore I am concerned I don't have something right. I tried lining the hole in the new bushing with the bolt on the car, and the outside of the new bushing definitely does not line up correctly.

The new bushing didn't come with any directions. I looked at Matthew's site, and he has some directions but I don't believe they address my concerns. If anyone could offer advice I would appreciate it. I know this was long - basically I don't see any offset in the OEM bushing in any direction. In the new one I see 1/8" "front to back" if I place either arrow "up". Thanks in advance.

Mine has rotated 30 degrees or so from when I installed it. Looking from driver side, the bushing arrow is now at about 11 o'clock (I installed it straight up). The arrow on the other half does appear to be about 180 degrees from that, though difficult to see in there because the arm is in the way. It's the one from FCP Groton, blue-purple in color. Don't know if IPD sells the same one.
I had metal-on-metal prior to changing, so the new bushing has quieted things down considerably. I haven't noticed anything unusual, even with this rotation I just discovered.

Hi Bill. Yes, I have the same as you, from FCP. I can't quite figure out why there is an offset, but there definitely is. The reason I posted here is that I can't imagine flexing things enough to put the bushing in so that the arrow points up on the driver's side of the arm. I guess that is what I will shoot for, and take whatever I get. In your case you obviously came close to straight up. I appreciate your reply. Don

Here's my guess: The eccentricity-offset is designed to aid installation. My logic: Once the existing bushing is removed, the engine may shift very slightly forward or backward, since its upper support is now gone. With an eccentric bushing, it can be rotated in the housing to the position where it will accept the thru-bolt (which would make lining up the arrow a moot point, I suppose). Anyway, it's still going to find it's own position once you drive it for a while, because it's not a press fit.

What you say makes sense. I guess I was thrown off by the fact they printed an arrow on there. The OEM has an arrow and it points "up". Of course, the design is completely different. In thinking about the construction of the new one, the orientation probably doesn't matter (other than in one direction the two halves will sheer with little force). The OEM has that web, and an engineer would probably show on paper how the damping is measurably different based on direction. I think you are right - the aftermarket has the eccentricity to aid installation. Thanks for the replies. Don

I don't remember dealing with this issue....snug on the front to begin with anyway. Still no gap for mine. I got mine from eeuroparts.com
