'01 S60 Electrical Problems S60 2001

Car died and no power anywhere. While replacing 7 year old battery, noted that lights came on when moving negative connection. Cleaned posts & connectors, replaced battery. Car started, all electronics worked except sunroof and interior door lock switch. Cycling door locks from outside with fob seemed to solve problems: interior door lock switch worked and sunroof closed. Car started and worked fine Wednesday morning then Wednesday evening it wouldn't start again. Lights come on, but when switch turned to "start" position there is only a click. Clutch fully depressed, transmission in gear, still no start. Removing and replacing battery cables triggers the alarm, but still won't start. Any ideas that will help keep from hauling this car 100 miles to the dealer (Borton)? Car is in Austin, Mn. Thanks.
Marlin

New batteries are at about 60% charged, enough to start the car once or twice. With Volvo, the DRLs are on which draw a lot of energy making the battery harder to come to a full charge. Plus the radio and climate control. If you have access to a charger, plug it in. Or ask a neighbor to help jump it. Make sure you turn the radio and blower off before you try again.

Car now at Borton's. They think it's the CEM (central electrical module). $1400--WOW! Should know for sure by Monday.

If it is not the CEM, make them put the old one back in!! And ask for proof. I hate it when they just throw parts at it. Did they explain why it could have gone bad?
Also contact VolvoUSA and let them know, they might be able to help with the cost. I realize it is 7 years old and way past warranty, but it is worth a try.

They did say up front that if the CEM was not the problem they would remove it and not charge for it. I have read that keys need to be reprogrammed into the system when the CEM is replaced. Do you know if that is true? Thanks.

The key memory is in the CEM and I have heard that the CEM can burn up if an incorrect jump start, read more than 18V is applied. You did not have that problem.
Your car started in the morning and went "click" in the afternoon. The fact that it clicked, means the electronics were OK. Sounded more like an almost dead battery with not enough voltage to engage the solenoid for the starter.
I am closer to Borton's than you by about 90 miles, but they won't let me look at your toy! I can always be around for moral support :) and a cup of coffee.
