I change my own oil and need to know how to turn off the "Service Engine" light. Anyone know how?

on a S70 only a reset by the dealer or special tool (expensive) can turn off the service light.

Alternatively U could unplug the bulb to the service reminder lamp from under the dash. Remove the lower panel under the steering wheel (1 torx screw holding it) and slide the entire panel out. Trace the right bulb holder and remove the bulb.

Actually, I figured it out after I wrote the original note. All you have to do is push the odometer reset button and hold it while you turn the ignition to II position. Continue to hold it for ~10 seconds until the light starts to flash. Next, either release the button and turn the ignition off or turn the ignition off and then release the button, I can't remember which. One of those procedures works. I guess I'm getting that old age disease where you forget things, I just can't remember what its name is.

No special tools needed.

When the light start with flash hold the buttonin about a few seconds and than you release the button. you start the engine and look to the service engine light when it is not out do it again. You have than the button to quik release hold the button a little bit longer. or go to a dealer he makes the light out for a little money.

Gavin, I have reset the SE light on my 2000 S70 a few times....and I never needed any tool except my index finger.

FWIW: I think the 99 and 00 have the same set up as far as reseting the SE light goes.

I am not 100% sure On this, but it goes like this:

key in pos. II

hold down trip reset button for a few seconds until the SE light starts to flash

while the light is flashing, and your finger is still on the trip reset, turn the key back to pos. I

start the car

the SE light should be off now.

BTW: You can have your Volvo dealer(via the VADIS cart) reset this light for a set amount of hours on the engine, or for a set amount of overall time, or for a set amount of miles between changes.
