HELP MOUSE IN MY ENGINE! S70 1999

Hey guys I have a weird problem. I have a mouse/rat that has been going into my engine compartment at night. I have found some small pieces of food, and some droppings around the bolts on top of the engine(right next to the oil opening on top of the motor). Since I park my T5 outside, I am mainly concerned about possible wire damage that may result from this bastard chewing my wires. Also, I am worried about pieces of Sh*T falling into the engine... Any ideas on how to catch this Son of a Bi**h. I figure I can spread some poison underneath the car?????? Thanks in advance.

NICK

Re: HELP MOUSE IN MY ENGINE! S70 1999

i recomend you either try trapping and killing the fucker or you relocate your car elsewhere and put rat poison out in the area. aminal's learn by repetition, break the cycle. it probably is not a rat, as most rats (rattus rattus) are big. its probably a mouse, and those - well as said in other posts - cheese and a trap or peanut butter........

Re: HELP MOUSE IN MY ENGINE! S70 1999

Nick, while you're at it, check the air box as they can get inside and build quite a nest! On my wife's 850 the sucker built a nest that filled every bit of space under the air filter!!! It was so interwoven that it all came out in one piece...needless to say the car had lost a lot of power, which led to this discovery.....Bill

Common problem S70 1999

I see what you describe on MOST Volvo "white engines" as apparently mice luv 'em. Although I'm never thrilled myself with seeing droppings, etc, I can't say that I've seen much damage unless they either build a nest inside your air cleaner restricting air flow or worse, get inside the car and chew holes or die in there (bad scene).

The best defense is traps, not poison.

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! S70 1999

I wouldn't use poison because even if the mice (and not some neighborhood cats) find it, then they will decide to get into your HVAC system before they die. And if they die in your HVAC system, well, then just order your new BMW....

A mousetrap and dab of peanut butter for bait virtually always works.

Nick,

What you just described happened to me as an aircraft maintainer. I had the plane down for a week troubleshooting anomalies associated with the flight control computer. Found out a mouse had made a meal of a wiring harness. Was forced to catch that critter the old fashion way--food and a moustrap!

Re: HELP MOUSE IN MY ENGINE! S70 1999

About 20 years ago my uncle worked at a Ford dealership. A customer complained about his car's performance. When they open the hood, they found a live snake in the air filter. All the men ran away. A lady who worked at an insurance company next door caught the snake and put it in a cloth bag. She kept it as a pet. Happy owner, happy mechanics, happy lady happy snake.
