Fog Lights for S-70 S70 1999

I got a quote from the Volvo dealer for fog lights yesterday. $288 for the parts and an hour and a half labor at $75 per hour. That's over $400!! Has anyone a better idea to get OEM looking fog lights for a 1999 S-70? THANKS, MH

Re: Fog Lights for S-70 S70 1999

I have the OEM fog lights on my 850GLT and S-70GLT. They are for appearance only. They are useless as a means of illumination. In NY the headlights must be on with the fog lights.

Re: Fog Lights for S-70 S70 1998

JJ,

Are you joking me ? I have had the original Volvo fog light on my 1998 Volvo S70 for nearly two years now, and I find it the best fog light out there, comparing it to other manufacturers' factory fog light for their vehicles ( except for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche ). Here in Canada, the law is the same - THE HEADLIGHT MUST BE ON BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE THE FOG LIGHT.

Mine illuminate the road ahead EXTREMELY well, even in the worst fog situation ( as I experienced last winter - You can't even see the car in front of your. I think I would have slammed into 3 different cars that night, if not for my factory fog light ). The factory headlight are GREAT on clear dark nights, but they don't do too well in HEAVY FOGGY SITUATION.

That is when you need the FACTORY FOG LIGHT.

Of course, you might find your fog light's performance decrease, if you don't look after it. Beside washing the car every weekend, I use normal Windex to wipe all the lights before I go out, and after I come home. The

other thing you might want to check is that I don't know how true it is, BUT I heard that some dealers removed the original bulb that came with the kit and installed a cheaper, and less powerful bulb. I made sure that didn't happened on my car, because I took a few hours off from work and watched the Volvo tech installed it at the dealership.

Well, how about in the S600 Armoured limo? All you have to do is sip your martini and smoke your cigar while the chauffeur stays on the look out... LAMER!

Sure... S70 1999

try pricing them from one of the discounting Volvo dealers, such as Nils Sefeldt Volvo or Verrigni Marine (look under "shops" in the above header), and install them yourself. The wiring is all in place, you need to install the lights, underdash relay and switch. The '99s, BTW, are much less of a pain than the '98s, because the US '99s don't have the underdash steel knee bolsters that the '98s have.

Total cost should be north of $200 and some skinned knuckles.

Thanks, Uncle Olaf S70 1999

Uncle Olaf, I ordered the fog light kit at a discount just like you said. I have looked under the blank on the dash next to the rear fog light switch. There is an empty electrical plug there in the dash, and also an empty electrical plug at both the air dam and tow hook cover on the front bumper. The relays on the 1999 S-70 are under the hood near the drivers side firewall. There is a headlight relay there. Is this the one that needs to be changed? THANKS AGAIN, MH

Re: Sure... S70 1998

Dear uncle Olaf,

I was searching for info on the fog light installation for my S70

and purchased after-market lites. I also got the Volvo dash switch,

my question is about the relay. I have a bosch relay with the same pin-outs

as described in my volvo wiring manual but modified it to be diode protected as in the print and I removed the normally closed contact and soldered it inside to the N.O. so that "87" and "87a" are both normally open. my relay won't pick. does the "hot" wire exist in the relay base?

my diagram shows the hot side of the relay base comes from ⎮/13(3)USA/CAN] a violet wire from ΐ/1:3A] this particular trace is a dotted line in my book. Please, any info will be greatly appreciated.

Signed; so close but yet so far Phil
