How much is an engine out of a 96 850 (non-turbo) with 24k miles worth? I'm wondering if it's worth buying and keeping until I need it as my 95 850 has 166k on it.

Since they are offering it at no reserve, it could be a good deal for somebody. When you need one of these, you would probably be happy to buy a low mileage one like that for ~$1,200. (Of course, how do you know the vendor is telling the truth about the mileage?)

The thing to do is search www.copartfinder.com for a 96 850 non-turbo, and ask those wrecking yards what they would charge. If you can buy it for less than half of that price, its probably worth buying on spec. (If you can store it indoors, and keep it from rusting up.)

What a deal!!! There must not be many Volvos in Kansas or wherever that wrecking yard was, for them to let it go with no reserve and only get $237.50.

Store it indoors if you can, and squirt some oil down the spark plug holes to protect the cylinder walls.

It is worth whatever the seller is asking, minus a few hundred bucks. I would guess around a grand. If you can get the transmission do that too.

I think that your current engine and trans are good for another 100K, but if you plan to keep the car forever this would be a good deal. Basically you are talking about a new engine.

how much should a transmission with 46k on it cost? i'll let you know on the engine with 24k when i get this figured out. Any suggestions on how to store the engine if i do decide to grab it? Thanks for all your help!

Is it the 10 valve 144 HP (BS252S) or is it the 20 valve 168 HP. I don't think you should get the motor your not driving a Audi from the 80's this is a Volvo were talking about , built to be safe and last forever.
