"trunk open"-light V70-XC70 98

Hi there,

I know, this has been posted some times ago,

as I remember having read somthing about this problem,

but although I really looked for the thread, I could not find it,

and neither anything on bay 13.

So here's the problem:

My trunk (door)-open light stay on every now and then,

I guess the switch is dying,

so I will try to replace that before it really gets

annoying. Where to find that thing, how to replace?

Thanks for advice

Ralf

There is a micro switch that is built into the tailgate latch assembly that is more than likely on it's way out of service (not working). Your problem sounds like you need a new tailgate latch assembly, uncertian of the cost, replacement is streight forward, no soldering, just a few bolts, plastic clips, etc, this is also a good time to install the tail gate repair kit, as long as the rear panel is off.

I too have a '98 V70. The tailgate at times will not close, (the light stays on). I've read other posts about it being a rather large and costly repair. If you find any short cuts, let me know.

    Thanks and Good luck.

I had the same problem. The "door switch" is integral with the latch. My dealer replaced the two rear door latches as well as the tailgate latch under warranty. Which would be 4 years/50,000 miles in the US. I recall reading in the Haynes manual that the repair is not for the faint-hearted. It involves de-soldering, and re-soldering, and if you're not very careful, you can fry a circuit board. It isn't a cheap repair, if you're out of warranty.

Once again, I don't know what drugs the Volvo "engineers" were using when they thought that one up, either!

    Good Luck!
